Do you hate to wait? Anticipation may be fine for Carly Simon, but for the rest of us - well, we want what we want and we want it now. That can make a passion for Burgundy all the more frustrating, as its top wines are made in excruciatingly small quantities, which are then scattered across the globe. Assembling a substantial collection of the top Domaines requires the patience of Job and the tracking skills of a bloodhound. Or, if “instant getification” is your modus operandi, you could win this lot. Dozens of the top Burgundies ever produced - in one place, right here, right now.

Burgundy's 2005 vintage is widely considered the greatest red wine vintage in a generation. Two Burgundian powerhouses excelled with the perfect materials that weather and the land provided that year, Domaine Dujac and Maison Champy. Over the years, Domaine Dujac has built a stellar reputation, building on new wine making technology and established tradition, under the skilled direction of Jacques Seysses. Nowhere is this better evidenced than in Dujac’s wines from its holdings in the Cotes de Nuits. Initial barrel tastings of the 2005 Clos de la Roche, Morey St. Denis and Chambolle Musigny showed wines that are silky smooth with clean fruit and intensely floral bouquets. These seductive wines will age well and fully bloom in five to ten years. Rich and creamy, the 2005 Chambertin should be ready a bit earlier.

Maison Champy has the distinction of being the oldest Maison du Vin in Burgundy. Established in 1720 with cellars dating back to the 15th century, the House was purchased in 1990 by renowned oenologist and wine maker Henri Meurgey, his son Pierre, now Director, and Pierre Beuchet. The reputation of Champy has been soaring ever since. Champy’s 2005 Corton Charlemagne is a good example of this. Produced from the Pernand-Vergelesses area of the Corton hill, with rich vanilla overtones, woody spices and a sweet yet minerally finish, this wine is all but impossible to track down. In this six-liter format, it is simply an extraordinary prize.

The same can be said of the three-liter formats of Echézeaux with its understated finesse, the intense Clos de Vougeot that embodies the essence of Pinot and the very limited production of Clos St. Denis and Mazi Chambertin - only 25 total cases were made. Beaune is perhaps the most beautiful city in the world of wine, and Maison Champy, situated in the heart of Beaune, is offering the winner of this lot an exclusive private tour and tasting for four conducted by Pierre Meurgey, followed by a classic Burgundian luncheon at the Estate.

No fantasy in Burgundy would be complete without a selection of wines from the legendary Domaine de la Romanée-Conti. It seems that every DRC wine produced receives rave reviews, because it is true. The 1985 DRC wines were their best wines in decades and they are ageing perfectly. Although they have years of life ahead, particularly the huge Chambolle-Musigny, they are already perfectly mature, a treat for those who may be short on patience. It is always a rare experience to taste an aged DRC Romanée-Conti itself, even better when it is the “utterly mind blowing” 100-point 1985.

A fine boxed magnum carafe “Ella” from William Yeoward is the perfect accompaniment to these remarkable wines. Design inspirations for William Yeoward Crystal are drawn from antique crystal pieces made in England in the 18th and 19th centuries. Handmade, this Georgian cut crystal is a work of art in its own right, its flat cuttings catching the light and enhancing the color of any wines decanted into it. It includes a silver plated decanting funnel, whose spiral design oxygenates wines as they are poured. A nice touch, in case you are the type of person who hates to wait.
