Throughout a long career as owner of Merryvale and Harlan Estate, Bill Harlan has been motivated and driven by one goal: to create a California First Growth that would rival the great wines of France. By founding BOND Winery in 1996, Harlan took a giant leap toward achieving that dream.

BOND is both a physical winery and the embodiment of a philosophy. The winery is dedicated to the ideal of selecting and working with vineyards that have the potential of producing a Grand Cru in the single varietal of Cabernet Sauvignon.

During his years at Merryvale, Harlan and winemaker Bob Levy used fruit from nearly 60 different Napa vineyards, and they realized that a few of them had the quality to stand out from the rest. The concept behind BOND was to farm those vineyards with their own team and develop them until they reached First Growth quality. The vineyard sites selected for BOND went through an “audition” process that took as long as ten years, before Harlan and Levy felt their wine was ready to release to the public.

The winning bidders on this lot will receive an extraordinary, behind-the-scenes immersion into the BOND philosophy and the wine that stems from it. Your party of eight will receive a private tour of the BOND Winery conducted by the estate director, Master Sommelier Max Kast. This will be followed by a luncheon with wine pairings selected by Kast and food prepared by Christopher Kostow, chef at The Restaurant at Meadowood, which held Three Michelin Stars before being destroyed in the 2020 Glass Fire.

During the luncheon, you’ll be introduced to the five vineyards that currently comprise Bond:

MELBURY is located on a seven acre south-facing hillside and produces elegant wines with aromas of red fruit and spice. Situated high in Spring Mountain, PLURIBUS produces bold wines full of structure and power. QUELLA, which is the German word for spring or aquifer, is located on a former riverbed, yielding lively wines with notes of blue fruit and graphite. ST. EDEN is a focused wine with aromas of cassis and chocolate, filled with flavors of wet stones and fresh herbs. Finally, VECINA is an east-facing hillside plot in Oakville known for dark-fruited wines with a distinct mineral core.

You and your party of seven will spend two nights in close proximity to the winery in Oakville at the renowned Meadowood Napa Valley, an intimate wine country hotel set on 250 acres that blends luxury and elegance with the pleasures of nature. The 36 rooms and suites provide every possible amenity while offering guests an immersion into the Napa lifestyle.

In addition, you will receive Double Magnums of the 2014 release from each BOND vineyard presented in a one-of-a-kind original wood case – a priceless addition to your personal cellar and almost never available in Large Format bottles.

Airfare, airport transfers and ground transportation are not included. Non-alcoholic beverages and paired wines are included with the luncheon. Room category at Meadowood will be at the discretion of the BOND team and will be based on availability. Trip and luncheon to take place on mutually agreeable dates and based on availability. Additional meals and beverages are not included and are the responsibility of the winning bidders.
