Playing golf with a famed PGA champion is a dream for any golfer, but exceedingly rare is the chance to play with the best golfer in the history of the game, the legendary Jack Nicklaus.
The winner of a record 18 major golf championships, the “Golden Bear” has graciously agreed to play a round to support the Naples Children & Education Foundation, providing three lucky gentlemen with a truly once-in-a-lifetime opportunity.
This experience includes Roundtrip, Private Airfare from Naples to Jupiter for three couples—where the men will tee it up with Jack at The Bear’s Club, a gently rolling 7,164-yard championship course that’s among the jewels of his golf-course design company.
The ladies, meanwhile, will enjoy a day as they wish in nearby Palm Beach, shopping along enchanting Worth Avenue, enjoying some pampering at a spa, or savoring lunch at a chic café — or maybe a little of each! The couples will also enjoy one night’s accommodations at a luxurious Palm Beach hotel, and dinner for six at an upscale Palm Beach restaurant.
But really, this prize is for the golfing guys under the tent! As Jack ages — he turned 80 just a few days ago — and limits his participation in charity events, an opportunity like this might never repeat itself.
Jack, his career and the golf courses he’s designed are all the stuff of legend. Since turning pro in late 1961 at age 21, Jack quickly emerged as one of the most dominant players on the PGA Tour, winning his first U.S. Open in 1962. He went on to amass six victories at The Masters and capture five PGA Championships, four U.S. Open titles and three British Opens to set a golfing record with 18 major tournament victories. (By comparison, Tiger Woods is No. 2 with 15 major wins, and Walter Hagen, 1892-1969, is third with 11.)
Elected to the World Golf Hall of Fame in 1974, Jack also won six Australian Open titles, was named “PGA Player of the Year” five times and was named by Sports Illustrated as the greatest individual male athlete of the 20th-century.
While still competing as an active player, Jack branched out to other business endeavors, notably taking a serious interest in the creation and design of golf courses. His company, Nicklaus Design, has developed hundreds of courses across more than 35 countries. His gem in Jupiter, The Bear’s Club, exudes a lowcountry feel as it moves through a property rich in native vegetation, old oaks, pines, cypress trees and wetlands areas.
Aesthetically and strategically placed throughout are 102 bunkers, many of them steeply flashed. They were inspired by the bunkers at the Royal Melbourne Golf Club in Australia, which Jack visited in 1998 as captain of the United States Presidents Cup team. A collection of medium-to-large undulating greens demand precision; they are rounded off at the edges and feed into hollows and chipping areas.
The layout incorporates a memorable collection of par-five holes, anchored by the gorgeous home hole featuring a visual feast as the golfers’ approach. The long, pear-shaped green is tucked into the elbow of a lake, leaving a generous bailout area to the right. Just beyond the water sits the impressive stone façade of the grand, Tuscan-style clubhouse.
In addition to a storybook experience with the Golden Bear, the golfing trio takes home bespoke golf outfits from Élevée Fine Clothing. Each gentleman will receive a custom-designed polo shirt, golf pant and hat designed to specification and made in the USA.
So, guys, this is no time to warm up at the practice tee. Just bid early and often until you’re raising your paddle in triumph — just like Jack raised his putter aloft as he captured his sixth Masters’ win in 1986!
Round of golf to be scheduled for a mutually agreed upon date within one (1) year of the auction. Travel must originate from and return to Naples, Florida. Ground transportation while in Palm Beach is included. Dinner in Palm Beach to include beverages and tax. Gratuity will be at the discretion of the winning bidders.
