Founded in 1967, the Montreux Jazz Festival takes place every summer on the shores of Lake Geneva, minutes from the terraced vineyards of Lavaux. It is one of the world’s most important music festivals, generating fantastic stories and historic performances by legendary artists. Originally focused solely on jazz, blues and soul, it has expanded to include contemporary styles of music such as rap and rock.
The winning bidder’s party of four will have exclusive access to the Montreux Jazz Festival, experiencing the very best of food and wine along with the natural beauty of northern Switzerland. This incomparable eight-day journey will take you from the banks of Lake Geneva to the Alpine heights of Gstaad, creating lifetime memories along the way.
Performers at Montreux have included a range of iconic artists such as Miles Davis, Nina Simone, Aretha Franklin, Ella Fitzgerald, Prince, David Bowie, Leonard Cohen, Elton John, Stevie Wonder and Lady Gaga. More than 250,000 music lovers attend every year. The event was originally held at the Montreux Casino and now the concerts take place in several intimate lakeside venues.
Your home will be a Junior Suite with a Lake View at the Fairmont Le Montreux Palace, known for its Belle-Époque architecture, which has been delighting visitors with impeccable hospitality since 1906. Your experience will begin with a private tour of Geneva: a global city, financial center and “peace capital,” a headquarters for diplomacy with the greatest number of international organizations in the world.
During two enchanted days at the festival, you’ll have an up-close and personal view of the concerts with the Seated Hospitality Experience. In addition to reserved, privileged seats at both auditoriums, you’ll enjoy a welcome apéritif, a seated dinner prepared and served by the Fairmont Le Montreux Palace, access to the VIP hospitality village Le Jardin and an open bar until the beginning of the concerts.
Unfamiliar with the crisp, mouthwatering profile of Swiss wine? You’ll have a private tour of the Lavaux vineyard terraces, a UNESCO World Heritage Site stretching for 18 miles along shores of the lake, offering spectacular views from almost every vantage point. The wine estates in this region of Switzerland produce familiar varieties such as Chardonnay and Pinot Noir but also specialize in lesser-known local grapes such as Chasselas, Amigne and Arvine.
You’ll expand your wine horizons with a tasting at one of the leading properties, followed by a truffle hunt and traditional Swiss fondue meal with truffles. On a narrow shore between Montreux and Villeneuve, you’ll visit the Château de Chillon, occupied by the house of Savoy and the Bernese from 1536 to 1798, before returning by boat across the lake to Montreux.
The gastronomic high point of your visit to Geneva will be dinner at the legendary Restaurant de l’Hôtel de Ville in Crissier, holder of Three Michelin Stars. Opened in 1955 by the father and son team of Benjamin and Frédy Girardet, the restaurant has been a trendsetter throughout its history and a pioneer of the nouvelle cuisine movement. The kitchen is now under the supervision of chef Franck Giovanni, who has maintained the Three Michelin Stars since 2016 with his inspired and lyrical cooking style.
Before leaving Geneva, you’ll have the choice of visiting either Lausanne or Évian. Lausanne is an Olympic city with a charming Medieval center and an abundance of museums, galleries, parks and sporting activities. Évian-les-Bains, known simply as Évian, has been an elite spa destination for over two centuries, famed for the restorative qualities of its thermal springs.
You’ll depart Geneva and travel on the panoramic Golden Pass line through the mountains to Gstaad, enjoying breathtaking views along the way. No need to worry about your luggage, as it will be transported by the Swiss Traveling Bellboy system and will be magically waiting for you at your new hotel. Although known primarily as a ski resort, Gstaad in summer is a delightful destination that allows visitors to focus on the beauty of the surrounding scenery and the opportunity for unique excursions.
Prepare yourself for an exhilarating experience: a visit to Glacier 3000 on top of an Alpine peak where the snow never melts, with stunning views of the Matterhorn and Mont Blanc. On foot, you’ll traverse the Tissot Peak Walk, the world’s only suspension bridge connecting two mountain summits—the memory of crossing the bridge at 10,000 feet will stay with you forever.
Back at sea level, you’ll rediscover the true delights of horsepower: a private, horse-drawn carriage ride around Lake Lauenen, a natural reserve dotted with fir trees, heather and waterfowl. The trip along the winding lake paths is a mixture of pristine scenery and romance.
The world’s greatest musical artists, world-class food and the opportunity to discover one of the most unspoiled paradises on earth: All this can be yours by simply raising your paddle!
