“If you are lucky enough to have lived in Paris as a young man, then wherever you go for the rest of your life, it stays with you, for Paris is a moveable feast.” – Ernest Hemingway
Whether you are young, old or somewhere in between, the magic of Paris is addictive and unforgettable. This remarkable lot will allow the winning bidder’s party to experience the City of Light according to their desires with personalized tours arranged by a private concierge.
Your home base for two glorious weeks in Paris is a two-bedroom apartment in the Left Bank’s 7th Arrondissement, a centrally located area that includes landmarks such as the Eiffel Tower and Hôtel des Invalides (Napoleon’s resting place), museums including the Musée d’Orsay and the Musée Rodin and the aristocratic neighborhood of Faubourg Saint-Germain. Le Septième, as the Parisians call it, has been home to the French nobility and upper class since the 17th century.
Your private concierge will facilitate your personalized experience of Paris, conducted by licensed guides or driver guides, including (but not limited to) these possibilities:
If you’re new to the city or if years have passed since your last visit, you have the option to begin with a four-hour guided tour of the top sights. Your guide will take you to Champs Elysèes, Place de la Concorde, Place Vendôme, Opéra Garnier and the Trocadéro Square for the best views of the Eiffel Tower. You’ll enjoy a stop at the Seine’s largest island, the Ile de la Cité, home to the cathedral of Notre Dame, and finish the day at the picturesque neighborhood of Montmartre.
If you want to experience the amazing museums, the city has 136 of them, and your concierge will help narrow the field so that you can see what you came for with options for private tours before anyone else is let in. Begin with the Louvre—a labyrinth extending over more than 225,000 square feet—where your guide can start with masterpieces such as the Mona Lisa and Venus de Milo, then customize the rest of your visit. Fans of the great Impressionist masterpieces will definitely want to stop at the Musée d’Orsay, which houses the collection of major canvases formerly in the Jeu de Paume. The Rodin Museum houses more than 400 works including The Thinker and The Kiss.
If food is your focus, Paris has the greatest food on earth. Visit the top restaurants or expand your tastebuds with behind-the-scenes glimpses into how delicacies are made. The Left Bank gourmet tour allows you to walk like a Parisian through the exotic streets of the Latin Quarter, visiting a market, a cheese dairy and several baker’s and confectioner’s shops: finish with a tasting of foie gras, wine, cheese and bread. The Marais pastry and chocolate tour takes you through Le Marais, a famous artistic neighborhood in the center of Paris, known for its food as well as architecture. Discover a pastry shop with a chef trained by Pierre Gagnaire, a coffee shop owned by a coffee champion, a Franco-Russian tea store, the best ice cream maker in the city and boutiques filled with chocolate and delicious pastries.
You can choose the Montmartre gastronomy tour. There’s more to this legendary neighborhood than bohemians and painters. Explore a pastry shop specializing in fine tarts, a fishmonger, a charcutier, a baker and a vegetable seller. Finish in front of the Clos Montmartre winery, the last trace of an agricultural past.
If you have a sweet tooth, you may be interested in the fine pure chocolate walking tour: Only chocoholics need apply! Learn about exceptional cocoa varieties and taste the specialties of the best chocolate makers. You’ll visit five artisan chocolate shops in two hours as you stroll the streets of the shopping district between Concorde, the Louvre and Opéra. Another top food tour is the bakery tour. Step into the warm kitchen of a friendly boulanger, as he shares his treasured baguette recipe passed down through the generations—from the mixing of the dough to the kneading, shaping, decorating and baking in special ovens. You’ll have a tasting at the end, and a baguette and croissant goodie bag will be yours to take away.
Paris is inspirational. You can target that inspiration with some of the finest culinary classes in the world. Learn how to construct a meal from beginning to end with a Market Visit & Cooking Class. You’ll tour the market with a Parisian chef who will introduce you to the art of buying the best products; afterward, you’ll construct a full meal of an appetizer, entrée and dessert in her kitchen. For those with a sweet tooth, there are two options: a Macaron Cooking Class, where you’ll learn to make the trendy and delicious treats you see in the best Parisian pastry shops, and a Dessert Cooking Class, held in the chef’s apartment in the 20th Arrondisement, when you’ll get step-by-step instructions on how to construct two traditional desserts.
Paris is home to world-class shopping. For an upscale experience, take a Fashion Tour conducted by a Parisian fashionista guide, who will help you find the best designers and boutiques for fragrances, shoes, hats, handbags and jewelry. Your private concierge can also help arrange time in any of your favorite fashion locations.
If you like to be active, consider getting a daily workout with a 90-minute Running Tour, accompanied by a coach, as you pass the sights of the Right Bank. Explore Le Marais with a Bike Tour or see the City of Light on a Segway Tour. Before you try out for the Moulin Rouge, be sure to take a French Cancan Class with an instructor who was the choreographer in the Woody Allen movie Midnight in Paris.
You can use your private concierge to arrange many day trips or even an overnight trip outside Paris to idyllic locations such as Chantilly, Giverny, Fontainebleau or Versailles.
On top of all your options you will also have a chance to leave Paris for a special excursion. You will have a choice of either a day trip to Versailles or a profoundly moving day trip to the Normandy beaches.
On June 6, 1944, the most important battle of the 20th century occurred as the Allied forces stormed the Normandy beaches to liberate France. If you choose to visit the Normandy Beaches, you’ll walk in their footsteps as you relive that momentous day. You will visit beaches from Bloody Omaha to Gold Beach, visit the Memorial Museum at St. Laurent sur Mer, located just behind Omaha Beach and then leave your footprints in the sand at the sight of the costliest landing of Operation Overlord. Pay your respects at the American Cemetery and stop at the Arromanches D-Day Museum at Gold Beach. The day will be one that you’ll never forget.
Discover the beautiful Palace of Versailles, the most historic home in France serving residence to Kings between 1662 to 1789. With your expert guide, learn about the history of The Palace and it’s well-known Hall of Mirrors, the King’s Bedchamber, Queen’s hamlet, Temple of Love, Grand Trianon and the Royal Chapel. With VIP access and the ability to skip the line, French history has never been more exciting or accessible.
During this unique Paris trip, you will have the ultimate freedom, with expert advice to explore bespoke Paris in the way you have always wanted to. This trip will be your most memorable one because it will be created by your private concierge with no one in mind but you.
Back home, your personal wine cellar will be graced with Large Format bottles of Poetry Cabernet Sauvignon, the flagship wine of Cliff Lede Vineyards. When Cliff Lede purchased his steep hillside vineyard in the Stags Leap District, he was inspired by Robert Louis Stevenson’s observation that “wine is bottled poetry.” When these bottles mature, you will certainly agree.
