Back in the late 1960s, brothers Bob and Steve Miller shared a dream: to develop a vineyard that would one day be recognized as one of the world’s finest.
One could certainly say their dream has come true. The vineyard they founded together, Bien Nacido – or “well-born” in Spanish – has earned accolades from Wine Enthusiast, The Wall Street Journal and Food & Wine, among others. This is the chance for one winning couple to personally discover the Santa Maria AVA, home to Bien Nacido and the Miller Family’s second winegrowing venture, Solomon Hills. Pinot Noir, Syrah and Chardonnay have all found great expression in this AVA, thanks to its location in one of the coolest climates in the state, and a terroir that combines rocky soil and the influence of the mighty Pacific Ocean.
Your journey starts with two nights at the luxurious Ritz-Carlton Bacara, Santa Barbara, a 78-acre oceanfront resort silhouetted against beautiful beaches and lush mountains. Here, you may wish to take in the coastal sights of the town that’s sometimes called “The American Riviera” – including perhaps quaint Stearns Wharf or picturesque Santa Barbara Harbor – before winding your way out to wine country for two unforgettable nights at the Bien Nacido Estate guest house.
Together, you and your traveling companion will embark upon a private visit to the Bien Nacido winemaking facility with winemaker Trey Fletcher. You’ll also enjoy a private Solomon Hills and Bien Nacido tour with vineyard manager Chris Hammell and the winemaking team. Capping it all off is a private vertical tasting of library wines with estate ambassador and Master Sommelier Will Costello, and lunch in historic Los Alamos, a vibrant small town known for its Old West flair.
Your experience concludes with a four-course meal with owner Nicholas Miller and Master Sommelier Will Costello, accompanied by The Pillars, the reserve tier of Bien Nacido Estate wines. And to take home with you, the Miller Family is generously gifting the happy winner of this auction lot with one Double Magnum of 2015 Bien Nacido Estate Chardonnay, and one Double Magnum of 2014 Solomon Hills Estate Pinot Noir.
This dream won’t wait … and neither should you!
Airfare to California is not included. A rental car will be provided for the duration of the couple’s stay. Visit to be scheduled for mutually agreeable dates with the exception of December 24, 2019–January 1, 2020.
