Château Mouton Rothschild is a unique place, a historic wine estate where, through its iconic labels, the making of a great wine intersects with the world of art. In 1924, to salute his first vintage bottled entirely at the château, Baron Philippe de Rothschild (1902‑1988) asked the famous poster designer Jean Carlu to create the Château Mouton Rothschild label. Ahead of its time, it remained an isolated initiative.

In 1945, this time to celebrate the return of peace, Baron Philippe decided to crown the label for the vintage with the “V” for Victory, drawn by the young painter Philippe Jullian. This exceptional circumstance marked the start of a tradition, and every year since 1946, a different artist has been invited to create an original artwork for the label. Initially, Baron Philippe chose painters from amongst his friends, such as Jean Hugo, Léonor Fini and Jean Cocteau. Then, in 1955, Georges Braque himself agreed to illustrate the vintage. He was followed by the greatest artists of our time, including Dalí, César, Miró, Chagall, Warhol, Soulages, Bacon, Balthus, Tàpies and Koons, forming a fascinating collection to which a new work is added each year.  The Paintings for the Labels exhibition at Château Mouton Rothschild features the original artworks created for the labels. In addition, the estate is also home to the Museum of Wine in Art, containing wine-related art objects from two millennia.

The winning bidders of this lot will receive exclusive VIP access to the private unveiling of the label for 2021 Château Mouton Rothschild, where they will be amongst the first in the world to discover the artist and the original artwork for the label. Coupled with two enchanting days in Paris, this is an exceptional and privileged experience in the world of wine and art.

Your unique trip begins just outside the French capital, at the Airelles Château de Versailles, Le Grand Contrôle hotel. Located right next to the Château, this Five-star hotel grants special access to parts of the palace and the beautiful gardens that span nearly 2,000 acres. A former royal residence built by Louis XIV’s favorite architect, Le Grand Contrôle offers ultimate refinement and serenity. Your stay will include a private tour of the Château, with memorable experiences such as strolling through the Hall of Mirrors and visiting the royal apartments with your private curator.

The glories of nature on canvas will come alive during a visit to the Musée d’Orsay in Paris, home to the world’s largest collection of Impressionist and post-Impressionist masterpieces. In addition to works by Renoir, Cezanne, Manet, Degas, Seurat, Gauguin and Van Gogh, the museum houses some of Monet’s famous murals of water lilies. A private visit, accompanied by a curator, will enhance your appreciation of its treasures.

From Paris, you’ll travel to Bordeaux to attend the exclusive unveiling of the label for 2021 Château Mouton Rothschild. Open to only a few members of the wine and art world, you’ll attend the official reveal of the label for the 2021 vintage of Château Mouton Rothschild, considered by many to be the best-kept secret in the art world. In the presence of the artist, you’ll be amongst the first in the world to discover the original artwork for the label and hear the artist’s firsthand description of their creation. Taking place the day before the official worldwide announcement, the much-awaited event will be attended by the Rothschild Family. The unveiling will be followed by a cocktail reception and dinner at the First Growth estate. Your time at Château Mouton Rothschild will also include a private viewing of the newly renovated Paintings for the Labels exhibition, featuring the complete collection of original artworks since the 1945 vintage. You’ll be staying in a Five-star luxury hotel in the Médoc region for two nights.

The memories of your journey will live on in your personal wine collection with two  ex-cellar Jeroboam formats. You’ll receive a 5 Liter Jeroboam of the legendary 2000 vintage, stored in pristine conditions at the estate since release. Praising its “seamless freshness” and “phenomenal length,” critic Robert Parker called it “an incredibly complex and multifaceted wine.” You’ll also be the owner of a 5 Liter Jeroboam of the 2021 vintage, currently unavailable for retail, upon its release on December 1, 2023. Tasting out of barrel, Wine Enthusiast magazine called it “big, rich and sumptuously smoky,” and noted its “density and power.”

Whether you’re a devotee of wine, art or both, don’t miss the opportunity to participate in this once-in-a-lifetime experience. One bid can make it yours!
