If you love South Carolina—and if you love golf—start planning now. Two couples will soon be celebrating every moment of every day, immersed in the beautiful natural surroundings, grand Carolina golf and the luxurious lifestyles of The Cliffs and Kiawah Island Club.
In the glorious Carolina mountains are the seven vibrant communities of The Cliffs—three on sparkling Lake Keowee not far from Clemson, three higher up in the cool mountain air near thriving Greenville, South Carolina, and one just minutes from the Southern gem of Asheville, North Carolina.
For the first leg of this joyful journey, your home base will be a luxury golf cottage at The Cliffs at Keowee Falls. This world-class community has carved out 20 miles of Lake Keowee shoreline that belongs exclusively to its residents. Keowee Falls is a natural nirvana, where members roam 2,500 acres of dense forests, cascading waterfalls and fields of rare Oconee Bells — all without venturing outside the gates. Inside the gates are a magnificent clubhouse and wellness campus, as well as an award-winning Jack Nicklaus Signature golf course.
All seven communities invite you to enjoy every privilege and amenity: your choice of seven superb golf courses with scores of accolades, seven state-of-the-art wellness centers staffed by experts in fitness, and more than a dozen casual and fine dining opportunities. In addition to the course at Keowee Falls, you will have your choice of The Cliffs’ two Fazio-designed courses, another Nicklaus design, courses designed by Ben Wright and Gary Player, and a Tom Jackson designed course rated by Golf Digest as “Fourth Most Scenic Course in the Nation” and “Best in State.”
Every evening will be special. On two nights, a personal driver will take you to and from dinner at any Cliffs club you prefer, where dinner for two couples will be accompanied by two bottles of sommelier-selected wines. On one night, you’ll be treated to a private, in-home dinner prepared by one of The Cliffs’ award-winning executive chefs trained by James Beard as well as Michelin-starred chefs.
You still have some important decisions to make. Which two of these very cool options will you choose to round out your time at The Cliffs: a wine tasting; bourbon, craft beer and cigar experience; private golf clinic; guided paddleboard or kayak experience; individual or couples massage; boating and/or fishing; or cycling? (There’s no wrong answer!)
Your next to-die-for destination is the exclusive, private membership Kiawah Island Club, set amid the unspoiled beauty of Kiawah Island with its unique, vibrant shopping village and natural maritime setting. All just 25 miles south of historic Charleston.
The golfers in your group will spend two beautiful Carolina days on their choice of two acclaimed courses. The Tom Watson designed Cassique Golf Course is a 7,050-yard, links-style course, which runs beside marshes and maritime forests where the Kiawah River meets the Atlantic Ocean. Tom Fazio’s River Course is a 7,039-yard layout with views of picturesque marsh savannas, ponds, and vaulting maritime forests.
Spend a morning out on the water for a private fishing charter guided by Kiawah Island’s own Captain Elliott. Enjoy your fresh catches that evening for dinner at the new oceanfront B-Liner restaurant at The Beach Club with a menu created and designed by James Beard Foundation Award-winner Mike Lata.
If you aren’t on a fairway, why not be on a massage table? Four divine treatments at the Sasanqua Spa are complimentary. Either activity will whet your appetite, and you’re always invited to enjoy the members-only restaurants, including Voysey’s at Cassique featuring a menu crafted by James Beard Foundation Award-winner and “Top Chef” judge, Tom Colicchio.
Since you are so close to Charleston, enjoy a quick evening getaway where you will enjoy Oysters and Champagne at chef Mike Lata’s acclaimed restaurant The Ordinary, followed by dinner at award-winning FIG, with a menu curated by chef Jason Stanhope.
Then, before you know it, it will be time for the 2021 PGA Championships! You’re all set: four VIP badges, four nights at the brand-new AAA Five Diamond and Forbes Five-star Sanctuary Hotel at Kiawah Island Golf Resort (yes, where the players will be staying), and dinner for four at The Ocean Room.
Throughout the trip, you will arrive at each destination in style – via the HondaJet Elite aircraft. Cruising higher, faster, and farther than every jet in its class, it offers the legroom of a heavy jet and fully-enclosed lavatory (with skylights), all in the comfort of its whisper-quiet cabin.
If Carolina has already captured your heart, better capture this lot.
