Imagine having the ability to combine the beauty of Venice, the charm of the Veronese countryside and the timeless elegance of the best wines from Valpolicella. The winning bidder on this lot will have it all in the course of one unforgettable week.
Six generations of the Allegrini Family have played a vital role in the Valpolicella region. The area experienced a profound period of transformation starting in the 1960s with Giovanni Allegrini. Today, his daughter Marilisa runs the estate, which is responsible for the best of classic Amarone, as well as Brunello di Montalcino and other innovative modern blends.
Your adventure begins in Venice, the “City of Canals,” designated as a UNESCO World Heritage Site. During your three nights in Venice, you’ll be exposed to the very best of the city’s cultural heritage.
Located on the Grand Canal and housed in an 18th century palace, the Peggy Guggenheim Collection includes works of prominent Italian futurists and American modernists working in such genres as Cubism, Surrealism and Abstract Expressionism, as well as sculptural works. You’ll enjoy a refreshing aperitivo as you explore the artwork with your private guide.
Depending on availability and time of year, you’ll attend either an opera or concert at Teatro La Fenice, one of the most famous landmarks in the history of Italian theater. Originally built in 1755, it was destroyed on three occasions by fire and rose from the ashes each time.
You’ll enjoy private tours of some of Venice’s memorable sights, such as the Basilica di San Marco, located at the eastern end of Piazza San Marco. You’ll also explore the Palazzo Ducale, once the residence of the Doge of Venice, the supreme authority of the former Republic.
After your sightseeing tours, you’ll dine at the Gran Caffé Quadri on Piazza San Marco. The menu features a wide array of cicchetti, or Venetian-style small plates, that can be ordered as a snack or proper meal.
It’s time to journey to Fumane di Valpolicella, the home of Allegrini and the Villa della Torre. Completed around 1560 and purchased by Marilisa Allegrini in 2008, the palatial building is one of the jewels of the Italian Renaissance. Today, it is home to the Villa della Torre winery and houses the Allegrini Wine & Art Relais. Your party will stay in two of the ten luxurious rooms with every modern comfort, overlooking the surrounding vineyard of Palazzo della Torre.
You’ll explore the Valpolicella vineyards and taste the high points of the Allegrini portfolio including the Valpolicella Classico and Superiore, as well as the Giovanni Allegrini Recioto, dedicated to Marilisa’s father; Amarone della Valpolicella Classico and the Fieramonte Amarone della Valpolicella Riserva; La Poja Corvina Veronese IGT; and La Grola Veronese IGT and San Polo Brunello, produced at the family estate in Montalcino
During your days at Villa della Torre, you’ll have a cooking class personally conducted by Marilisa Allegrini, as well as dinner with a vertical tasting of Allegrini Amarone. Sitting in the midst of history, you’ll attend an operatic performance in the Arena di Verona, a Roman amphitheater built in 30 A.D. You’ll explore the culinary range of the region, from a modest enoteca to the Bottega del Vino, a meeting place for locals since the 16th century. A guided tour of nearby Verona will culminate in dinner at Casa Perbellini, holder of Two Michelin Stars.
You’ll be treated to a full day excursion to Lake Garda, Italy’s largest lake and a popular holiday destination located halfway between Brescia and Verona. You’ll travel by boat to the Sirmione Peninsula on the southern coast of the lake, nicknamed “the peninsula of poets” for inspiring writers from the ancient Catullo to Ezra Pound and James Joyce. You’ll visit Isole del Garda, the largest island in the lake, as well as Punta San Vigilio, a village with a fantastic panorama overlooking the entire area.
In addition, the winning bidders will receive an assortment of the best Allegrini wines, in Magnum format, for his or her personal cellar.
While it’s impossible to put a price on all of this unspoiled, natural beauty, we urge you to bid high and bid often—and remember, it’s ALL for the kids!
