You may have been to Buenos Aires or Mendoza, but now it’s time to experience the real Argentina: a country of wild pampas and fertile rivers, where hunting and fishing is raised to a fine art, eco-conscious yet supremely exciting.
Your adventure begins in Buenos Aires where you’ll spend one night in a Five-star hotel. Before transferring to your Argentinian expedition, you’ll spend a day in the capital and have lunch at the rustic yet refined Belisario Roldán, known for traditional Argentine specialties, paired with the wines of Bodega Catena Zapata.
Founded in 1902, Argentina’s Bodega Catena Zapata is known for its pioneering role in resurrecting Malbec and in discovering extreme high-altitude terroirs in the Andean foothills of Mendoza. The family’s Adrianna Vineyard, at almost 5,000 feet elevation, has been called the Grand Cru of South America. The bodega is run by third-generation Nicolás Catena and his daughter Laura, both of whom have been instrumental in putting Argentine wines on the world map.
After your day in the capital, you will take a flight to the province of Santiago del Estero in Northern Argentina and transfer to the lodge of the same name operated by David Denies. The pioneer of dove shooting since 1984, Denies has refined dove hunting in Argentina and set a new standard for service in the field.
The facilities and amenities at the lodge are without peer in the shooting world, featuring a private billiards room, an outdoor heated plunge pool, gym, massage room, wine cellar and TV room. From welcome drinks every day and cool towels in the field to turn down service at night, you’ll enjoy an unparalleled level of pampering. Wi-Fi internet access, satellite telephone and satellite TV are available, and there will be a gourmet dining experience each day, with Argentina’s famed beef and fine wines, traditional asados, fresh baked breads and delicious desserts.
A typical day at Santiago del Estero will begin with a cooked-to-order breakfast. The morning shoot will begin upon arrival at the field, where you will be met by your field assistant and escorted to your shooting position. Depending on the time of the year, you will shoot until noon each day, then return to the lodge for an incredible asado lunch, where you will enjoy Argentina’s wonderful beef and superb wines. After lunch, and a good siesta, the afternoon shooting begins at around 3:30 to 4:30pm and continues until around 6:00 to 7:30pm, after which you will return to the lodge, where you will be met with cocktails and appetizers, followed by a delicious dinner and time to relax.
Depending on your preference and the time of year, your field experience will be divided between dove and pigeon shooting. The lodge has been allocated with a large and very productive hunting zone, providing absolute exclusivity over a huge expanse of land. This enables the lodge to manage resources and allows the hunters freedom from pressure.
Now it’s time to move to the Suindá Lodge on the southern side of the Paraná River, at the border between Argentina and Paraguay, for your pursuit of the giant Golden Dorado.
Perfectly placed in the heart of Argentina’s best dorado fishing, Suindá Lodge sits high on the riverbank of the clear upper part of the Paraná River. The beautiful jungle lodge serves as a central hub and resting place for anglers on the prowl for the giant Golden Dorado. These fish are smart, tricky, moody and sensitive, making for some of the most technical yet rewarding fishing out there.
You’ll explore this dynamic fishery on 21-foot boats which have been specifically designed for two anglers to fish simultaneously. Paraná River Golden Dorado average 5 to 20 pounds, but there are also fish pushing 30+ pounds. When the conditions align, you’ll wade clear sandbars where Sabalo baitfish school up in shallow waters. This is the ultimate sight-fishing experience, where landing monsters is a real possibility.
The newly built Suindá Lodge and stilted living quarters are perched on a high bluff, offering soaring views of the sprawling river and its natural surroundings. Wooden footbridges conveniently connect each room to the main dining hall. As at Santiago del Estero, you’ll be pampered with every luxury convenience, including an á la carte menu with delicious local and international cuisine and wines.
In addition, the winning bidders’ party will remember their trip with a formidable assortment of wines from Bodega Catena Zapata, which demonstrate the versatility of the Malbec grape and the greatness of their high-altitude vineyards.
World-class hunting and fishing combined with great food and wine: Bid high and help our neediest kids at the same time!
