The magic of harvest in Napa Valley must be experienced to be fully understood. It’s truly one of the wonders of nature, as dark, deeply-colored clusters of ripe grapes from the Opus One vineyards are gathered by hand and brought into the cellars to become the next vintage of Opus One. And for the four lucky couples who take home this “Harvest Immersion” experience, it’s something they’ll experience firsthand.
This one-of-a-kind experience will plunge you and your traveling companions into the winegrowing process and you’ll celebrate with library vintages, combined with exceptional cuisine prepared by Michelin-starred chefs. To further illuminate each experience, each dinner will incorporate a special ambassador guest from other leading luxury producers outside of the wine industry, enhancing the conversation around the idea that luxury is about true artisanship. This unforgettable Opus One experience will be held from Friday, September 20 to Monday, September 23, 2019.
To start, you will be welcomed with a delicious lunch in the vineyards, followed by a vineyard walk with Opus One winemaker Michael Silacci. It’s your exclusive chance to taste the fruit at various stages of ripeness, and to hear his perspective on picking decisions. After checking into Napa’s newest luxury inn – the finely-renovated Ink House in Rutherford – you will return to Opus One for dinner. Your special guests of honor for the evening will be from Bentley Motorcars, and they will share insights into the conceptualization and design of their celebrated line. You and your friends will be the first to dine on the new Opus One Veranda, with its sweeping views of Napa Valley. This culinary experience, prepared by a globally-renowned chef, will be complemented by rare library selections from the Opus One cellar.
The following day, your harvest experience begins in earnest, with an early morning excursion to the vineyard with Michael as your guide. Here, you may view and join in on the harvest activities. In the cool, early morning air, you’ll take in the sights and sounds of the world around you, then put on a pair of gloves and try your hand at picking – and ultimately be rewarded for your work with an elegant lunch in the “Tree House” at the renowned Auberge du Soleil resort. Your afternoon will be free for a spa visit or tastings, which will be customized for you. That evening, you’ll enjoy the company of a famous American fashion designer, who will share their perspective on the world of high fashion over dinner in the new private dining space at Thomas Keller’s The French Laundry. Wines from around the world and special bottles of Opus One will accent the evening.
To conclude your immersion weekend, you’ll visit one of Opus One’s barrel makers, and witness the attention to detail applied to each French Oak barrel. You and your companions will hear from the coopers about the differences between French and American Oak, as well as learn about the influences of toasting. Your day ends with another memorable dinner: A gala, complete with a reception, where you will experience the enchantment of an expert from Van Cleef & Arpels in the Opus One Salon. One of the storied jeweler’s experts will share with you how their glittering creations are brought to life, from the stringent stone selection process, to how gems are cut and set by hand. Chef Gabriel Kreuther of GK New York will be the evening’s guest chef and devote his culinary talents to a menu complemented by local ingredients and inspired by the spirit of the harvest.
As a special souvenir of the harvest, each couple will take home a vertical of Magnums of Opus One from 2011, 2012 and 2013.
It’s time to toast the harvest. Bid high!
