Your home base in Napa will be the Poetry Inn, one of the Valley’s most secluded luxury boutique hotels. Opened by Cliff Lede in 2005, the elegant five-room property is a hidden gem perched high above the valley floor, offering the only accommodations in the Stags Leap District. Accessible exclusively to registered guests by way of a steep, gated drive, it is the ultimate wine country sanctuary for those seeking privacy with the tailored service of a personal concierge.
The winning bidder’s party will have exclusive use of the Poetry Inn throughout their five-day stay.
Designed by famed architect Howard Backen, no two rooms at the Poetry Inn are alike, and each room offers sweeping views of the Napa Valley. All rooms are appointed with a king-sized bed, a wood-burning fireplace and luxury Italian linens; they feature hand-hewn wood floors, original artwork and private balconies. These balconies face west, making sunset a spectacular time to relax and unwind. Bathrooms are spacious and built of Beauharnais Rose Limestone and Palladiana Marmo Giallo Reale marble. Each has lounging furniture, dual vanities, a large soaking tub and both indoor and outdoor showers with rain showerheads. The romantic nature of the rooms has fostered many return visits and several marriage proposals.
Poetry Inn’s treatment room is one of the most tranquil and intimate spaces in all of wine country. Therapists can be arranged for massages, facials and a host of other treatments.
Begin your exploration of the Oakville AVA with Valerie Boyd and Jeff Gargiulo, proprietors of Gargiulo Vineyards. Their passion for Napa began in the early 1980s with a visit to Valerie’s cousins, Barney and Belle Rhodes, who had been growing grapes for decades at Bella Oaks Vineyard. The Gargiulos bought their first Oakville property, Money Ranch Road, in 1992, followed by the purchase of 575 OVX seven years later. They are committed to the production of world-class Cabernet Sauvignon—although one of their wines, the Sangiovese-dominated Aprile, pays tribute to Italy with its status as a Super Oakville blend.
You’ll spend a day at the vineyard with Valerie Boyd and Jeff Gargiulo followed by lunch or dinner and an exclusive wine pairing at the Gargiulo’s private residence with a surprise celebrity NWWF chef and music element!
Next, climb high above Lake Hennessy for a visit to Colgin Cellars with Ann Colgin and winemaker Allison Tauziet. Art collector and philanthropist Ann Colgin founded Colgin Cellars in 1992 and purchased the “IX Estate” property in 1998. The esteemed critic Robert Parker called “IX Estate” a “viticultural nirvana.” By employing the finest wine making techniques of small yields, vigorous hand sorting and meticulous blending, Colgin crafts wines of perfume, freshness and minerality.
You’ll receive in-depth history about the estate and wines, as well as a bird’s eye view of the Napa Valley. After your stroll among the vines, sit down for an elegant multi-course lunch featuring library wines from some of Colgin’s most distinguished vintages.
It’s time to explore one more Oakville property and meet Daphne and Bart Araujo, proprietors of Accendo Cellars. Daphne and Bart gained fame as the owners of the Eisele Vineyard, which they sold in 2013. For their second act, they constructed Wheeler Farms Winery in southern St. Helena and used it as a base to produce their new wine, Accendo Cellars. At Accendo they partner with their children, Jaime and Greg, to craft stunning Cabernet Sauvignon and Sauvignon Blanc from some of Napa Valley’s finest vineyards
You’ll join the Araujo Family at Wheeler Farms, their beautiful winery and Hospitality House in the heart of Napa Valley, surrounded by an abundance of fruit trees, vegetables and flowering plants. You’ll discover the high-tech systems in place within the winery and then bask in the warmth of the Hospitality House as you sample delicious wines and farm-to-table creations. You’ll take in the incredible views of the Valley and Mount Saint Helena in the distance. Later, you’ll re-join the Araujos at their home in Oakville to partake in lively conversation and dinner highlighting local, seasonal produce accompanied by wines from their private cellar.
You’ve already sampled the Cliff Lede style and hospitality at the Poetry Inn, but you haven’t yet experienced his wines.
Canadian Bordeaux enthusiast Cliff Lede founded his winery in 2002 with the purchase of a 60-acre estate in the Stag’s Leap District. He indulged his second passion—rock music—by naming each vineyard block after his favorite songs and albums (think “Dark Side of the Moon” and “My Generation”). The wines, however, are very serious, particularly his benchmark Poetry Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc, Merlot and Petit Verdot, it pays homage to Bordeaux while expressing the finest qualities of the Stag’s leap terroir.
Enjoy a private, multi-course dinner hosted by Cliff Lede in his home, designed by Howard Backen. You’ll sample top wines from the Lede Family Vineyards portfolio, along with gems from Cliff’s private cellar.
If you think your Napa indulgence is over, think again:
Your party will have dinner at The French Laundry, Chef Thomas Keller’s Three-starred Michelin restaurant and one of the most difficult tables to reserve in the country. Keller’s nine-course tasting menu combines the best of traditional French cooking techniques with modern American sensibilities. The French Laundry has been a training ground for chefs such as Grant Achatz, René Redzepi, Eric Ziebold and Corey Lee and has held the ultimate Michelin accolade of Three stars since 2006.
Your up close and personal adventure into the heart and soul of Napa Valley awaits!
