10 – 1.5 Liter Harlan Estate Cabernet Sauvignon (1 each: 2000 – 2009) presented in a one- of-a-kind, hand-built cherrywood presentation case lined and French-fitted with fine billiard cloth and bound in 4-oz. chestnut cowhide
Private tour and tasting at Harlan Estate followed by an intimate lunch at the winery with the Harlan family and principals for up to four (4) couples
Founded in 1984 by H. William (Bill) Harlan, a real-estate developer and Napa Valley resort owner, Harlan Estate has been called “the ultimate cult winery.” With its limited availability and stratospheric prices, it has been one of the most sought-after California Cabernets since the release of its first vintage in 1990.
Harlan Estate is difficult to acquire on the open market. The production is roughly 2,000 cases annually, and the wine is sold primarily through a mailing list, which requires a substantial wait for entrance; resale prices can easily exceed $1,600 for a 750ml bottle. Owning any vintage in Magnum format is nearly impossible. A ten-year vertical of Magnums sold for $700,000 at a 2000 charity auction.
The lucky winning bidder will have the unprecedented opportunity to own a 10-year vertical collection of Harlan Estate Magnums from the 2000-2009 vintages, presented in a one-of-a-kind, hand-built cherrywood presentation case lined and French-fitted with fine billiard cloth and bound in 4-oz. chestnut cowhide.
The 2001, 2002 and 2007 vintages were rated a perfect 100 points by celebrated wine critic Robert Parker, Jr., and the scores of the other vintages in this collection follow close behind. Reviewing the 2001, Parker observed “extraordinary nuances such as sweet, loamy soil and earthy minerality intermixed with some background smoke, black currant liqueur, plum, Asian spice and new saddle leather. The wine has a remarkable purity, concentration and intensity that should carry it for another 30+ years.” He called the 2007 an “uncompromisingly brilliant example of Napa viticulture and winemaking at its finest.”
This is your chance to own a slice of California winemaking history, a treasure to savor and to pass along to your children.
The winery: A poem to nature
Harlan Estate is nestled among native oaks atop a small, east-facing knoll in the western hills of Oakville. Despite the unassuming entrance, the hillside provides sweeping vistas of central Napa Valley and the Oakville corridor. The winery was designed by famed architect Howard Backen.
Four lucky couples will be treated to a once-in-a-lifetime experience: a private tour and tasting, followed by an intimate lunch at Harlan Estate.
Despite amassing more acclaim than practically any other California property, Harlan Estate remains a family winery. Bill and his wife, Deborah, are involved on a daily basis, and they have been joined in the business by their son Will and daughter Amanda, thus securing their legacy into the next generation. Bill Harlan has summed up his philosophy succinctly:
“If we can enrich people’s lives, and just maybe inspire them to do something beyond what they might otherwise have done, that brings us great satisfaction. Our purpose is to help our patrons to have an even more enjoyable and healthy life.”
Airfare to California, accommodations and ground transportation while in California are not included. Visit to Harlan Estate is subject to mutually agreeable dates and availability. Wines will be shipped directly to the winning bidder after the auction.
