The newest design from McLaren, every curve and feature of the McLaren 720S Spider is designed to give its new owner roof-down exhilaration and engagement in a beautifully designed package—sure to bring nothing but stares as it cruises along Fifth Avenue. This is the latest variant of one of the great supercars on the market – and now an iconic model for McLaren.
The 720S Spider takes all the great personality from the 720S – its 710hp, twin-turbo V8, its phenomenal handling – in combination with an optional one-piece retractable roof with a push-button electrochromatic feature. Just a touch of button and your roof will switch from a deep tint to clear in less than five seconds.
All the many highlights and features of the 720S Coupe remain – the 720S Spider also boasts a sumptuous leather interior with carbon fiber accents that evoke high energy and power. Chock-full of new technology, the 720S Spider includes a folding driver display that slides up once the engine is started. All display and monitors are perfectly positioned and configured to give you instant control.
The design is further enhanced by glazed flying buttresses across the rear flanks of the car that not only aid in cooling but provide for a 360-degree view for the driver. This is a first for supercar convertibles! Also with this new design, the windshield header is 80mm forward, aiding with ingress/egress and also adding to the sleek look of the car.
The fearsomely powerful 4.0-liter twin-turbo V8 engine produces 710hp to launch the supercar from 0-60 mph in 2.8 seconds with a top speed of 212 mph. Every part of this 4.0-liter unit, from the twin-scroll turbochargers to the 16 injectors, have been refined to maximize power, sharpen responses and increase fuel efficiency.
The 720S Spider also comes equipped with Proactive Chassis Control II to maximize grip on all surfaces. As cornering, acceleration, braking and aerodynamic forces constantly alter, and the road surface continually changes, PCII can analyze and react in two milliseconds.
The 720S is a technical tour-de-force, a towering achievement of what could be described as McLaren-ness: the make-it-better, make-it-faster ethos that has guided the brand since its foundation more than five decades ago.
It’s time to take off.
