What is it about the number four that works so well? Whether it’s British bands, comic book characters or the proverbial lucky clover, things just seem to fit better in foursomes.
And so it is with this auction lot from Napa Valley’s celebrated winemaker Carte Blanche, which brings together three couples for an opportunity to indulge in an unforgettable wine weekend. Along the way, they’ll visit four wineries and take home four different Carte Blanche wines in Magnum.
Need further prompting to put your paddle in the air? Let us tell you about Carte Blanche proprietor Nicholas Allen. Nicholas has nearly a century of wine in his blood, owing to the lineage of his great grandfather, Clarence Dillon, who acquired Château Haut-Brion in 1935. His family later purchased Château La Mission Haut-Brion in 1983. An early education, appreciation and interest in wine led Nicholas to produce his own boutique label in Napa Valley – Carte Blanche. On one particularly memorable Christmas, Nicholas’ grandmother gave him a wax stamp with his initials; over time, that seal has come to stand for the important alliance between winemaker, nature, art and technology, and it can be found on each bottle of Carte Blanche.
Of course, you’ll discover much more about Carte Blanche in person when you take part in VIP private tours and tastings at the Carte Blanche winery, as well as at a Carte Blanche vertical tasting at the Meadowood Grille at Meadowood Resort. This Relais & Chateaux property is tucked deep in the heart of Napa’s wine country and is a Forbes Travel Guide five-star hotel. Best of all, it will be your luxurious home-away-from-home for the three nights and four days of your journey.
This sumptuous resort is also where you and your traveling companions will enjoy a special dinner at the Three-star Michelin Restaurant at Meadowood with Nicholas and Carte Blanche general manager DJ Warner. Joining this very exclusive evening will be Helen Keplinger, Carte Blanche winemaker. Described as a “Rising Star” when she graced the cover of Wine Spectator magazine in June 2014 for her passionate pursuit of Grenache, Helen is also the force behind Keplinger Wines, which she and her husband DJ launched in 2006.
Keplinger is one of the wineries on your tour itinerary. But recall: This is a Fantastic Foursome and rounding out your visit are stops at Relic Wine Cellars and Macauley Vineyards as well. Begun in 2001 with just a few barrels of Pinot Noir, Relic turns to history for guidance in the making of its Rhône and Bordeaux varietals, as well as Pinot Noir and Chardonnay. Meanwhile, Macauley has earned praise from Robert Parker, Jr., who notes their wines merit attention.
Six friends, four wineries, three nights and 12 Magnums of Carte Blanche – including the 100-point 2015 Cabernet Sauvignon – all in exchange for one little paddle wave!
Airfare to California is not included. Roundtrip, airport transfers and all ground transportation in Napa for the activities listed above are included. Visit to be scheduled for mutually agreeable dates and excludes dates during Harvest from September 1 to November 1, 2019.
