How do you describe a week in paradise? The lucky winners of this auction lot will experience the magic of Northern Italy in three different locales, guided by 2006 NWWF Honored Vintners Shari and Garen Staglin. After you visit the enchanting shores of Lake Como, the grandeur of Barolo and the stylish sophistication of Milan and Pomellato, you’ll never really come home: The memories will always linger in your mind.

Your hosts for this remarkable week are Shari and Garen Staglin, proprietors of Staglin Family Vineyard. The Staglins are accomplished vintners and dedicated philanthropists, but given Garen’s family heritage, they have a special passion for the food, wine, fashion and culture of Italy. They will share that passion with you during this whirlwind tour of the most memorable sights and tastes in the northern part of the country.

Your journey begins in Lake Como in Lombardy. It is well known for its breathtaking natural beauty, historic lakeside villas and palazzos and, yes, celebrity sightings. Aboard a private boat, you’ll take to the sparkling waters of the lake with a guide to explore Lake Como. You will enjoy two nights at a Five-star hotel, exclusive historical tours along with other luxury leisure activities and fine dining. While in Lake Como, join the Staglins at Il Gatto Nero (The Black Cat) for a candlelit dinner overlooking the lake. Private tours of the highlights of this enchanted region will be provided.

From Lake Como you’ll travel to the Barolo region for an immersion into “the king of wines and the wine of kings.” Considered by many to be the ultimate expression of the Nebbiolo grape, Barolo has gained fame for its ability to improve with age. While it has evolved from its traditionally massive and tannic structure to a large-scaled but elegant wine, Barolo still sets the standard for the great wines of Piedmont.

Your home base for three nights in Barolo is the Relais le Rocche, a charming country inn nestled in the vineyards of La Morra, with management and staff devoted to the art of hospitality. Relax in the large, heated pool and sauna, or lose yourself during a stroll in the private park.

Your guide to the delights of Barolo will be DLynn Proctor, sommelier, actor and producer, best known for his work in the Somm movies and the Uncorked documentary on Netflix. Accompanied by the Staglins, DLynn will curate your visits to some of the leading estates in the region where you will meet the winemakers and owners.

In addition to wine, the Barolo region is famed for its cuisine, which differs from other regions of Italy: butter is used in place of olive oil, risotto is more common than pasta and meat—particularly veal—is the specialty.

From the rustic natural beauty of Barolo, you’ll be transported to the sophistication of Milan, capital of Lombardy. Long regarded as a political and artistic center of Europe, Milan is one of the world’s four fashion capitals. Beginning during the Roman Republic and continuing through the Renaissance, it has set the pace for economic and cultural achievement.

Your sightseeing will be customized according to your wishes, and you’ll have a hard time narrowing the field. Enjoy guided tours of the magnificent Cathedral of Milan; the Gothic church of Santa Maria delle Grazie; the Academy of Fine Arts; the La Scala opera house; and the Quadrilatero della Moda.

The high point of your time in Milan will be your visit to Casa Pomellato, the luxury jewelry brand founded by Pino Rabolini in 1967. Whether focused on high-end jewels or ready-to-wear, Pomellato is dedicated to the concept that jewelry is not just a status symbol but an accessory to be worn throughout the day and changed like clothing. Synonymous with creativity and color, Pomellato’s sophisticated stone combinations feature unusual gem cuts and visionary designs. At Casa Pomellato you will experience the atelier where craftsmen bring to life by hand the designs of creative director Vincenzo Castaldo. You will tour the workshop where 100 goldsmiths create each jewel followed by a private Milanese lunch. After lunch you will experience the Pomellato jewelry collection at your leisure.

As a reminder of your timeless experiences during this week, each couple will receive a Three Liter vertical (2017, 2018 and 2019) of Stagliano, the Napa Valley Sangiovese produced by Staglin Family Vineyard, presented in etched Double Magnum bottles.

Roundtrip, Business Class Airfare from any major city in the contiguous United States to Milan, Italy is included. VIP Meet and Greet, roundtrip airport services with customs assistance, all airport transfers and ground transportation are included. All meals, alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverages are included and planned in coordination with Shari & Garen Staglin while staying in Lake Como and Barolo. Lunches and dinners are included in Milan based on the winners’ preferences and planned in coordination with Pomellato. Gratuities are included for all stated activities of the trip. Any additional meals, activities and gratuities are at the winning bidders’ expense. Hotels and hotel room categories are based on availability at the time of booking. Trip to take place between February 2023 and January 2025, excluding July and August, on mutually agreeable dates and based on availability.
