Amid the exciting backdrop of international competition and cultural camaraderie, two couples will enjoy days that combine exploration of ancient neighborhoods and fascinating attractions with several half-day admissions to the most popular Olympic events. These lucky couples will also receive a special, behind-the-scenes tour of the NBC Olympics studios and broadcast facilities, as well as NBC Olympics merchandise!
You’ll arrive in Tokyo for six nights’ accommodations in Executive Rooms at the Hilton Tokyo, located in Shinjuku, the heart of Tokyo’s business, shopping and entertainment district. Relax in modern, Japanese-style comfort and admire stunning city views, as well as access to the hotel’s Executive Lounge.
Day two starts off with a half-day guided tour that includes the vibrant neighborhood of Akihabara, known for its pachinko and video game parlors. The Asakusa district is next, home of the city’s oldest Geisha quarters. This atmospheric neighborhood is a part of Tokyo’s shitamachi (or “old town”) and is also where you’ll discover Senso-ji, the oldest Buddhist temple in Tokyo. The narrow streets and alleys are full of little shops that sell traditional Japanese handicrafts. In the evening, take in the pageantry of the opening Olympic Ceremonies, with great seats in order to watch the arrival of the flame and parade of the world’s best athletes from across the globe.
Your next morning includes tours of the new Tokyo Fish Market, followed by exploration of the recently refurbished Tokyo Edo Museum. See a life-size replica of the Nihonbashi, the bridge leading into ancient Edo; the Nakamura-za Theatre; and scale models of towns and buildings from the Edo, Meiji and Shōwa periods. Visit the Roppongi neighborhood and the Mori Art Museum for great views of the city.
On Sunday morning, pay a visit to the Meiji Jingu Shrine, one of the most significant temples in Tokyo and Harajuku, which is a neighborhood famous for teenagers demonstrating the latest cutting-edge trends in fashion. You’ll also have the opportunity to visit a Bunny, Cat, Owl or Hedgehog café. In the evening, you’ll attend one of the opening sessions of an Olympics event sure to entertain and enthrall.
Monday is at leisure in advance of another popular Olympic event where the world’s greatest athletes will inspire you with their athletic brilliance.
On your final full day in Tokyo, you’ll tour the Museum of Emerging Science and Innovation (the Mirakan). Marvel at Asimo the walking robot who performs throughout the day. Then off to Kappabashi Dougu Street, also known as Kitchen Town, the famous restaurant and kitchen supply shopping district. Browse the bargains on cups, bowls, trays, pottery, lacquerware, chopsticks, sashimi knives and copious other items. That evening, attend your final invigorating Olympics event.
