Welcome to the amazing worlds of Argentina, from bustling, cultured Buenos Aires to beautiful, cosmopolitan Mendoza, the heart of wine country. Your adventure begins with a night that is quintessentially, seductively Argentina: Faena Hotel’s award-winning “Rojo Tango,” a show of pure excitement and intensity. Then, from one passion to another, get ready for your Buenos Aires culinary tours!
At the chef’s table of Mishiguene (“crazy” in Yiddish), experience the reinvented Jewish cuisine of chef Tomás Kalika, and at Cucina Paradiso, meet chef Donato De Santis, the “King of Argentine-Italian cuisine.” Next, dine at Parilla Don Julio, the classic grill and steakhouse established by owner Pablo Rivero two decades ago and named “Argentina’s Best Restaurant” in 2018 by “The World’s 50 Best Restaurants.”
On to a bit of Argentine art history. You already felt, firsthand, the excitement of tango—now, you’ll visit the birthplace of the sizzling hot dance—the La Boca neighborhood. You’ll visit the museum that is the former home of Martín, one of Argentina’s most popular artists. Then, before departing Buenos Aires, you’ll experience the world-class performance of your preference: ballet, opera or symphony.
Mendoza is the home of the Catena Family who, since 1898, has charted the course of Argentine wines. Nicolás Catena, inspired by what he learned in Napa Valley in the 1980s, transformed his family’s business into a world-class producer of award-winning Chardonnay, Cabernet Sauvignon and Malbec. In 2017, Bodega Catena Zapata was awarded the “Best Argentine Winery” award from Robert Parker Jr.’s The Wine Advocate and has also received “Winery of the Year” awards from Wine Enthusiast and Wine & Spirits magazine, among others. Laura Catena, Nicolás’ daughter, is a Harvard and Stanford educated physician and is the managing director of Catena Zapata. She also owns her own venture, Luca Winery, in Mendoza.
In Mendoza, you will enjoy luxurious accommodations at a Five-star hotel, and all will be treated to a Malbec bath, massage and tea service. Mendoza’s enticing culinary scene will include dinner paired with Catena Zapata wines at a top-rated, downtown restaurant and chef Francis Mallmann’s celebrated 1884 restaurant.
Amid many action-packed days and nights, you can look forward to a laid-back day at the family’s private retreat, La Vendimia, including wine and appetizers around the retreat’s swimming pool, followed by a traditional Argentine asado luncheon.
Your private winery tour will be enriched by a fascinating viticulture class and rare vertical tasting of Catena Zapata’s acclaimed Malbec wines. The experience culminates in the opportunity to create your very own Catena Zapata blend, which will be bottled and adorned with your own custom label!
