There has been a revolution in Spanish winemaking in recent years. This lot will take you to the front lines of that revolution: the town of Toro on the Duero River, home to Numanthia.

The winning bidders’ party of four will experience the essence of the Spanish spirit in five nights and six days, from the vineyards of the historic Numanthia estate to the sophistication of Madrid and the charm of Salamanca. Founded in 1998, Bodega Numanthia is a tribute to the legendary warriors of Numancia in Spain, whose residents heroically resisted a siege from the Roman army for 20 years in 134 B.C. The brave inhabitants finally preferred to burn the city and sacrifice their lives rather than surrender.

You’ll arrive in Madrid, refreshed from your transatlantic flight in Business Class, and check into The Madrid EDITION. Set in a tranquil area near the Puerta del Sol, the hotel features two restaurants helmed by world-class chefs, three unique bar concepts, exciting nightlife and entertainment and a magnificent outdoor pool with sweeping views of the city.

During your private walking tour of the capital, you’ll visit the Prado, Spain’s national art museum, home to an extensive collection of canvases by Goya, Hieronymus Bosch, El Greco, Peter Paul Rubens, Titian and Diego Velásquez. You’ll also stop at the Museo Reina Sofía, where Picasso’s monumental mural Guernica is on display.

From the capital, you’ll journey to Northwest Spain for a special visit to Bodega Numanthia, where some of the 200 acres of Tinta de Toro vines date back to 1880. Due to intense heat and sparse rainfall, the Toro region is a challenging one for winemaking, but the weather conditions result in low yields and a concentrated crop. The estate produces three wines: the entry level Termes, Numanthia itself and the flagship wine called Termanthia.

Every year, Bodega Numanthia captures the most elegant and complex expression of Toro into Termanthia, the crystallization of a never had before and never repeating vintage’s picture. In 2007, Robert Parker’s Wine Advocate gave the 2004 Termanthia their ultimate accolade of 100 points. Critic Jay Miller described the wine as having “a seamlessness that must be tasted to be believed. It should age like a great vintage of Lafite or Latour and have at least a 50-year life span.”

Counting on time as an invaluable contribution, a new dimensional wine unrestricted by time or a single vintage was created by the Bodega Numanthia team, Termanthia Ipse. This vision, crafted by estate director Lucas Löwi, resulted in the blend of three Termanthia vintages, 2014, 2015 and 2016, all of them coming from centenary vines, some over 200 years old. Set apart in small quantities, each vintage was placed in glass demijohns to be later assembled in terracotta amphoras for a year for a perfect integration.

Only 300 bottles were produced, and it is being released for the first time in early 2023. This ultra-rare and historic wine was recently awarded a perfect score of 100 points by James Suckling, saying in his review, “Such transparency here. Unique. A wine that may live forever.”

Your time at Bodega Numanthia will be equally divided between the vineyard and the cellar. You’ll explore the ancient vines with vineyard manager, Alejandro Vicente, before sitting down to a private vertical tasting with technical director Jesús Jiménez. Afterward, you’ll enjoy a tapas lunch at La Esquina de Colás in Toro, sampling traditional dishes such as chargrilled octopus and sardines, accompanied by a diverse selection of wines. In the evening, you’ll be hosted by Numanthia CEO Lucas Löwi at Bugao Madrid.

After your private vineyard tour, you’ll spend the night in the city of Salamanca at the Castillo del Buen Amor, a 13th century castle renovated into a stylish boutique hotel with every modern convenience. You’ll receive a private tour of the Old City, designated a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1988. In the heart of historic Salamanca, you’ll dine at Michelin-starred Ment by Óscar Calleja. Chef Óscar Calleja specializes in combining natural, authentic, special and distinct elements to create an extraordinary experience from beginning to end. “Life is not measured by how many breaths you take,” says the chef, “but by those moments that take your breath away.”

To remember this singular experience of Spanish wine and culture, the winning bidders will receive a bevy of cellar treasures: Two Magnums of 2011 Termanthia, a twelve bottle vertical of Numanthia from 2000 through 2011 and two Magnums of 100-point Termanthia Ipse.

Want to experience this extraordinary combination of history, heritage, food and wine? It’s just a winning bid away.
