The winning bidder on this lot will experience the best of two different but very special worlds: an inside view of the best Oregon Pinot Noir, Chardonnay and sparkling wines at the outstanding properties of Jackson Family Wines, coupled with an immersion into the wellness lifestyle of Canyon Ranch.
Your odyssey begins in the Willamette Valley at WillaKenzie Estate, established in 1992. Given all the similarities between Oregon and Burgundy, it’s perhaps no accident that both the original owners and winemaker were French, attracted by the region’s sedimentary soil and distinctive terroir. Today, WillaKenzie is a leading producer of Estate grown Pinot Noir and Chardonnay.
You’ll be welcomed at WillaKenzie Estate with sparkling wine and freshly shucked oysters, followed by a delicious, farm-to-table dinner prepared by the resident chef. For the next four days, your home base in the Willamette Valley will be the WillaKenzie Estate House, with sweeping views of the region. You’ll gain an invaluable insight into the production of Oregon Pinot Noir during a private blending session, in the property’s Estate Lounge.
Your party will have a private, guided experience at Gran Moraine, located in the heart of Willamette’s Yamhill-Carlton AVA. Named for the glacial sediment (moraines) deposited during the last Ice Age, Gran Moraine produces world-class sparkling wine, Chardonnay and Pinot Noir from choice blocks on the 190-acre vineyard. Winemaker Shane Moore came to the newly established winery in 2013, sharing his experience in regions as diverse as Canada, Western Australia, Sonoma County and Israel’s Golan Heights.
Shane Moore also serves as winemaker at Zena Crown Vineyard at the southern end of the Eola-Amity Hills, where you’ll also be received with a private, VIP experience. Comprised of 115 acres divided into 48 distinct blocks, Moore crafts four small-lot Pinot Noirs—reflective of each season in the Willamette, to capture the vineyard’s changing moods and expressions just as if it were a living, breathing thing.
During your stay in Oregon, you’ll be hosted for lunches and will dine at ōkta, the much-anticipated restaurant recently opened in McMinnville. Helmed by executive chef Matthew Lightner, ōkta offers a highly progressive tasting menu that draws inspiration from the bounty of the Valley supplied by the restaurant’s farm seven miles away.
Your knowledge of Oregon winemaking will be greatly enhanced during a dinner with two of the area’s trailblazers, David Adelsheim and Eugenia Keegan. David founded Adelsheim Vineyard, the Chehalem Mountains’ first winery, in 1971, and has served as the first chairman of the Oregon Wine Board and as president of the Oregon Winegrowers Association. Eugenia Keegan, a fifth-generation winemaker, began her career by interning in Burgundy’s vineyards and cellars. Today, Keegan serves as Senior Vice President of Winemaking for Jackson Family Wines’ Oregon portfolio, including WillaKenzie Estate, Penner-Ash, Gran Moraine and Zena Crown Vineyard.
Best of all: If your schedule permits, you can coordinate your Oregon visit with the annual International Pinot Noir Celebration (IPNC) on July 28-30, 2023. Held on the campus of Linfield University in McMinnville, IPNC is the world’s foremost celebration of the Pinot Noir grape. Your VIP tickets will give you access to all events including special tastings and the famous Salmon Bake, where wild salmon are roasted on alder stakes over a huge, custom-built fire pit.
From Oregon, you’ll head to Tucson, Arizona for a three-night stay at the original location of Canyon Ranch, founded in 1979. Canyon Ranch takes a holistic, integrated approach to wellness that is tailored to the individual needs of each client. As part of their updated Pathways program, each person will choose the modalities that best suit them.
Alternately, work with a personal Program Advisor to customize your stay. Activities can include fitness classes, cooking demonstrations, art classes, guided hikes, biking excursions and wellness lectures by physicians, nutritionists and other experts. You’ll leave Canyon Ranch with a new zest for life and a clearer path toward self-discovery.
To help you relive your Oregon experience at home, each couple will receive a horizontal set of single vineyard Zena Crown Vineyard Pinot Noir (Block 14, Conifer, Slope and Sum) from the 2017 vintage, in Three Liter format, along with six 750ml bottles of Gran Moraine Blanc de Blancs Sparking Wine.
As difficult as it is to put a price on wellness and great Pinot Noir, it’s time to raise your paddle and experience both—all it takes is one successful bid.
