Every so often, Red feels the irresistible call of the frontier, the desire to photograph the vast and endless beauty of the plains. Imagine that beauty paired with world-class food and wine in luxurious surroundings, and who could say no?
Two couples will experience an immersion into America’s heritage and dynamic present with vintners Shari and Garen Staglin. Famous for philanthropy as well as wine, the Staglins need little introduction to attendees of the Festival. In 1985, they purchased a historic estate on the Rutherford Bench, with a vineyard planted by André Tchelistcheff. Since then, they have become well-known for their stellar, estate-grown Chardonnay, Cabernet Sauvignon, Sangiovese and a Bordeaux-style blend called Ineo. Together with donations of their wines and chairing charitable campaigns, they have raised more than $1.2 billion, making them one of the most philanthropic leaders in the wine industry—and as you will discover, they are charming hosts as well.
Your adventure begins when you arrive in the city of Boulder, Colorado, famous for its cultivation of the arts, its vibrant downtown and its talented brewers and chefs. You’ll spend one night at the St Julien Hotel & Spa, one of the area’s most highly rated hotels, which offers breathtaking views of the Flatirons. You’ll have a memorable dinner at Frasca Food and Wine, owned by renowned Chef Bobby Stuckey. Frasca is a Michelin-starred and James Beard Foundation Award-winning restaurant that tells the story of Friuli-Venezia Giulia through the lens of Colorado. In addition to being a Master Sommelier, Stuckey welcomes guests with exceptional cuisine and expertly selected wines, creating an experience that fuses the flavors of Friuli with the spirit of the Rockies.
The next morning you’ll head out through the High Plains country for a scenic drive up to Brush Creek, where you’ll check into your luxury ranch accommodations that combine legacy, tradition and heritage with modern extravagance. Experience a private cowboy hat fitting and branding to refine your cowboy or cowgirl look. Enjoy a drink at The Saloon and soak up the sights of gorgeous sunsets and rolling meadows, followed by a gourmet farm-to-table dinner.
Your days will be filled with unique adventures. Expert Orvis-endorsed guides will lead you on an unparalleled fly-fishing experience. Their guides are not only masters of fly-fishing techniques, but they know how to get you to the right place at the right times, maximizing your chance of landing that trophy catch. Waders, rods, licenses and all necessary gear will be provided. On another day, you’ll jump into an all-terrain Polaris Ranger for an exhilarating tour of the highlights of the 30,000-acre Brush Creek estate. You’ll see unparalleled vistas, rushing streams, horses and even the hideout of the famous outlaw, Big Nose George, who rustled cattle and robbed trains passing through the valley. A horseback ride will be geared to your ability over a variety of trail terrains, water crossings and hill climbs.
During your time at Brush Creek, you’ll sample the highlights of Western cuisine. Days begin with bountiful breakfast feasts, with dinners featuring mountain trout or ranch-raised 100% American Wagyu beef. You’ll enjoy a gourmet meal paired with library wines from the Staglin Family cellar, with vintages dating back to 1989, and a favorite wine from each of their four winemakers. You’ll have a private pasta cooking class with the special Stagliano Sangiovese. Not only will you learn how to make pasta, but you’ll also gather ingredients at the 20,000 square foot greenhouse, where over 30 different kinds of produce are cultivated with hydroponics systems. A stop by the Medicine Bow Creamery will provide tastes of their amazing goat cheese and the chance to engage with the herd of Alpine, Nubian and Mini Nigerian goats. Before you leave, visit the Brush Creek Mercantile and add luxury turquoise jewelry and hand-grafted sterling belt buckles to your custom cowboy hat.
Each couple will receive a set of three etched library Magnums of Staglin Family Vineyard Estate Cabernet Sauvignon in a branded wooden box, from the vintages of 2014, 2015 and 2017.
You’re now officially cowboys and cowgirls, but most importantly, all the photos and memories of the endless rolling hills, verdant river valleys and majestic rock formations will linger in your mind forever. Your generous winning bid will make it all possible.
