Red has photographed the Italian countryside in detail and has a special fondness for the town of Montalcino, which gave birth to the legendary Brunello—and in particular the house of Argiano, whose wines have been known since the late-16th century, when the noble Pecci family built a lovely villa and adjoining cellar which still serves as their headquarters today.
Two couples will spend five blissful nights at Argiano in the heart of Montalcino, surrounded by private gardens, a still-consecrated Renaissance chapel and the estate’s scenic vineyards, offering guests a panorama that feels like a living Renaissance masterpiece. Your party will sleep in the Argiano Dimore, located within the 16th-century villa, where the rich history of the past blends with a modern luxury experience. Each room creatively incorporates reclaimed materials, combining ancient beauty with contemporary comforts such as Wi-Fi and air conditioning.
Argiano is a wine estate both traditional and innovative. The Brunellos are known for their balance of power and elegance, particularly Vigna del Suolo, an iconic wine made from the estate’s oldest vines. With its complexity and unique flavors, it exemplifies the estate’s commitment to the classic terroir of the region. At the other end of the scale, the Super Tuscan Solengo represents the cutting edge of Italian winemaking: a blend of Cabernet Sauvignon, Petit Verdot, Merlot and a small amount of Sangiovese, a bold and beautiful wine loaded with luscious black fruit. You’ll have the opportunity to explore the Argiano range during an in-depth tasting in the cellar. The wines will also come to life during a dinner prepared by the estate chef, Elena Montini. A graduate in Culinary Arts from Le Cordon Bleu in Florence, a sommelier and a lover of food and all its transformations, her menus change according to the seasonality of the gardens, the availability of fresh and organic products and meat from local farms. Chef Elena will also share her techniques with you during a private cooking class.
Your party will visit Altesino and Caparzo, two wine estates owned by Elisabetta Gnudi Angelini, referred to as “the lady of Sangiovese.” Although she doesn’t come from a family of wine producers, she has always had a passion for the land; after a career as an artist and film producer, she fulfilled her dream by becoming a vintner at the age of 40. After purchasing Caparzo in 1998 and Altesino in 2002, she became one of the foremost standard-bearers for quality in the Brunello region.
You’ll be welcomed at Altesino in the elegant 14th-century-built Palazzo Altesi, home to the Altesino winery. After a tour of the estate, your tasting will include jewels such as the Brunello DOCG and Riserva as well as the Brunello Montosoli, one of Italy’s first single vineyard wines. At Caparzo, you’ll have lunch and sample some of the wines introduced by Elisabetta Gnudi Angelini, including her Brunello Vigna La Casa and the Super Tuscan Cà del Pazzo, a blend of Sangiovese and Cabernet Sauvignon.
The culinary high point of your time in Montalcino will be dinner at Ristorante Campo del Drago, honored with Two Michelin Stars. As you gaze out over the vineyards, Chef Matteo Temperini will delight you with garden-fresh produce and local fish and game, combining earthy flavors with a contemporary touch.
Each couple will receive a selection of Argiano’s finest wines, including vertical collections of Brunello Vigna del Suolo and Solengo, both in Magnum format.
Red urges you to bid generously and fulfill your Montalcino dreams, just as you’ll enhance the dreams of our children.
