Since Hurricane Ian made landfall, the Naples Children & Education Foundation has been working to help our beneficiaries, community partners, teacher and individuals that have been affected. To date a few of NCEF’s coordinated accomplishments included: Increasing the amount of food being distributed in areas where food was not accessible, through a combination of hot meals and nonperishable items (more than 2 million pounds of food and thousands of hot meals) Working at a regional level by linking nonprofit groups to better assist with donated supplies and needed assistance to help the severely affected in Lee County Arranging for new clothes to be distributed in the hardest-hit areas of Southwest Florida Sourcing transportation for beneficiaries to increase their efficiency in providing supplies throughout the community Leveraging resources to resolve unique issues such as a need for mobile laundry services Connecting outside foundations, volunteers and others to help clean up and repair NCEF beneficiary buildings Linking nonprofit groups to better assist with donations of supplies #NCEF #NWWF #itsALLforthekids #Impactfult #HurricaneIan #support #beneficiaries #SWFLStrong #Hurricane #CollierCounty #Naplesfl #Naplesflorida

At NCEF, we are proud our Mental Health Initiative

At NCEF, we are proud our Mental Health Initiative partners have been working hard following Ian to ensure people have access to the help they need. Various mental health resources offered through the organizations in this post include: Resources to families and health care providers related to treatment and prevention of toxic stress during childhood through a partnership between the Florida State University’s College of Medicine @fsucom and NCEF, the Center for Child Stress & Health. Their resource website, fsustress.org, provides overviews of toxic stress and activities to help children cope. At @davidlawrencecenters direct behavioral health services are provided as well as useful mental health first aid training for youth and adults that teach how to watch and identify risk factors. @namicolliercounty continues to assist children’s behavioral health needs through the HUGS program but also offers support to adults through their Sarah Ann Drop-In Center. @healthcareswfl offers an integrative approach to primary care which incorporates behavioral health care for children. #CelebrityChefs Sundays! The list of celebrity chefs joining us during the #NWWF23 includes Danny Grant of @mapleandash in Chicago, Illinois and Beau MacMillan of @calascottsdale in Scottsdale, Arizona. Chef Grant is classically trained in French cooking, which drives his technique, but his love and passion for travel inspire his creations. Among his many accolades received throughout his career in New York, #Chicago and Scottsdale, Danny is proud to stand as the youngest US chef to earn Two #MichelinStars in 2011 and 2012. Since 2015 he has focused his energy into building his #restaurant group, What If Syndicate. Danny has created incredible restaurant brands including Maple & Ash, etta, Monarch and Kessaku. A two-time #JamesBeard Foundation Award-nominee for “Best Chef: Southwest,” #Chef MacMillan is a graduate of Johnson & Wales University in Providence, Rhode Island. He is a regular on several of #Food Network’s most recognizable shows and has made multiple appearances on the Today show. #ChefMacMillan served as the executive chef for the Sanctuary Camelback Mountain before transitioning to the current role of #culinary director for the resort. He is also the director of culinary operations for Clive Collective and oversees two new restaurant concepts Money, Baby! located in Las Vegas, Nevada and Cala in Scottsdale, Arizona.

Anybody can experience stress, regardless of their age. However, not all stress is the same. Toxic stress occurs when someone experiences a stressful and negative experience over a long period of time. This type of stress can be especially harmful to children. Toxic stress during childhood can lead to adult health problems like heart disease, cancer, asthma, and depression. Good news though, toxic stress is treatable! According NCEF Blueprint Partner the Florida State University’s @fsucom Center for Child Stress & Health, the first step is to look for common signs of distress, which are listed above. If a child is exhibiting these signs, caregivers should encourage them to talk about it. On November 2nd, the Naples Children & Education Foundation brought together a panel of experts for another informative summit discussing the Naples Winter Wine Festival’s Fund a Need called “Healthy Mind, Body & Soul.” This Healthcare Summit featured a group of panelists, moderated by Dr. Thomas Felke, who highlighted the status of healthcare in Collier County focusing on primary care access, current data trends and their big ideas for greatest impact on children’s physical and behavioral health in the future.
Among common answer themes was the importance of primary healthcare beginning with pregnancy and ensuring quality care is accessible throughout a child’s life, preventing unnecessary emergency room visits and addressing preventable conditions. Data presented showed health status needs evident with increased obesity rates, lack of special needs services, oral health care access and behavioral health across the board.

The incredible lineup of world-renowned vintners includes Laura Catena of @bodegacatenazapata in Mendoza, Argentina and Grace Evenstad of @chateau_de_la_cree in Burgundy, France and Domaine Serene in Dayton, Oregon. Laura Catena is a fourth-generation Argentine vintner, physician and author. Catena's great grandfather founded the #Catena winery in Mendoza in 1902 after emigrating from Italy. Laura graduated magna cum laude from Harvard University and has a Medical Doctor degree from Stanford University. Laura has been called the “face” of Argentine #wine. Laura combines a strong science background with a passion for her family #winery. She is currently managing director of Bodega Catena Zapata and her own Luca Wines in Mendoza. When Grace Evenstad and her late husband Ken purchased 42 hilltop acres in Willamette Valley’s Dundee Hills in 1989, the Oregon wine industry was still in its infancy. Today, Domaine Serene produces world-class #Chardonnay and #PinotNoir from six individual #vineyard sites, vinified in a state-of-the-art, gravity flow facility; their Evenstad Reserve Chardonnay and Pinot Noir have received endless accolades from the wine press. In 2015, the Evenstads became the only Oregon-based #vintners to own land and make wine in Burgundy, when they bought the historic #ChâteaudelaCrée estate in Santenay with vineyard holdings in the historic appellations of Pommard, Volnay, Meursault, Puligny-Montrachet and Chassagne-Montrachet.
