
Pierre Lurton
Born on July 27th 1956 in Bordeaux –
Son of Hélène Lafitte and Dominique Lurton
Lives in the Entre-Deux-Mers region
Education:
After obtaining his agricultural baccalauréat degree, he studied medicine for two years.
At the age of 23, he took over management of Clos Fourtet, a Saint-Émilion Premier Grand Cru Classé belonging to the Lurton family.
Work experience:
At the age of 34, Pierre Lurton was appointed Managing Director of Château Cheval Blanc, a Saint-Emilion Premier Grand Cru Classé A belonging at the time to the Fourcault-Laussac family.
In 1998, Bernard Arnault and Albert Frère acquired Château Cheval Blanc and named him manager.
On May 18th 2004, Pierre Lurton was appointed CEO of Château d’Yquem, a Premier Cru Supérieur in the 1855 classification, by Bernard Arnault and the LVMH group.
He is not only President of Cheval Blanc and Yquem, but also Cheval des Andes in Argentina, a joint venture between Bodega de Chandon, belonging to the LVMH group’s Chandon vineyards, and Cheval Blanc.
Pierre Lurton is also a consultant for a small number of selected estates.
Last, but not least, he created and developed his own vineyard in the Entre-Deux-Mers, Château Marjosse.
A sailing enthusiast, he has an old boat, and dreams of competing in the America’s Cup.
A good horseman, he appreciates riding as much in the Andes Cordillera as the Entre-Deux-Mers.
